Last year the Italian Department, led by Ms D’Aquila, initiated an exchange programme with an Italian grammar school “Liceo Scientifico Mattioli” in Vasto, one of the most beautiful Adriatic seaside resorts. Eleven students were invited by our school and hosted by our girls. In return 13 of our girls studying Italian GCSE and AS attended tailored lessons both in The Rossetti European Centre and the Liceo. They took part in workshops and trips and for a complete immersion in the language and the Italian life style they were hosted by Italian families. The sixth Form girls were invited to one of the “giovedì Rossettiani” where the well known writer Melania Mazzucco talked about her books which have been translated in various countries. Following the great success of the initiative we are planning to offer exchanges every year whenever possible.
The Rossetti European Centre is under the patronage of the Mayor of Vasto and in collaboration with the universities of Chieti-Pescara, Naples, Caen Basse-Normandie, Birmingham, Oxford and Yale. It includes literature and visual arts and provides an invaluable research resource on the Rossettis and the other Italian and European Modernism in general.
